Marinara Sauce Recipe

Marinara Sauce Recipe

Marinara sauce, or 'red sauce' is a simple yet cherished recipe that every Italian family has their own variation of. The great thing about a nice base sauce is that you can spice it up any way you'd like. This is my family's simple yet exquisite marinara sauce recipe

Ingredients:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp chopped garlic
2 cans tomato sauce (28 oz/1lb)
1 can water
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp sugar
2 bay leaves
Pepper
Garlic & onion powders

Directions:
In a medium-large sauce pan on medium heat add olive and oil and garlic, sautéing until lightly browned
Remove from heat and add tomato sauce (be careful of splattering)
Use can to measure water and add to sauce
Add salt, sugar (to reduce the tartness of the tomatoes) and 2 bay leaves (for flavor)
Add garlic, onion, pepper and any other Italian seasonings (more or less to taste)
Return sauce to heat and bring to a boil
Reduce heat and let sauce simmer for 3-4 hours with lid cocked on pot.
