Pesto Sauce Recipe

At first glance, many are scared off by the green hue of this sauce. Be not afraid! Pesto sauce is super delicious! It's also quite easy to make. Why buy anything store bought when you can make it in your own kitchen?! Another great thing about making it as home is you can control the ingredients, don't want the extra calories of cheese, don't add it in. Besides, fresh and homemade is always better, calorie conscious or not!

Ingredients:

1 pkg basil (.66 oz) or 10 leaves
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp chopped garlic (or 1 clove)
1/4 cup pine nuts
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions:

Remove basil leaves from stems. Wash and pat dry.

In a food processor, finely chop pine nuts.

Add olive oil and cheese to chopped pine nuts until incorporated.
Add basil leaves and garlic.
Process all ingredients until well blended.

Serve sauce over pasta or use as a base for a nice Italian stir fry!
